The “Introduction To Sailing” (ITS) Program is a two-day sailing course designed for beginners. The aim is to give participants an understanding of how boats sail and the basic skills and manoeuvres required to control them. Upon completion, the students will be novice sailors with an enthusiasm for the sport and an interest in pursuing it further. A certificate is presented to successful students.
Tuition is provided by experienced and highly skilled instructors using a combination of practical instruction and theoretical teaching. You will sail in one of RSYC’s Farr Platu 25 yachts and your instructors will aim to maximise practical learning on the water.
Course will run upon customers request at any day, both weekdays and weekends.

The intention of this programme is to enable children in the age range between 8 – 13 years old to participate in the sport of dinghy sailing. The boats used will be the Royal Selangor Yacht Club’s fleet of Optimist & Lasers sailing dinghies.
RSYC will provide all boats, equipment and tuition for the courses, including on the water safety boats and operators. It will be the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the children arrive at the designated sailing area by at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the sailing session.

The basic training course consists of eight indicidual sessions and three stages as follows:
Stage One – Designed to give a basic understanding of how a sailing boat works, with some experience of steering and handling the boat.
Stage Two – Pupils will learn a range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.
Stage Three – Pupils will progress to rigging, launching and sailing a boat in any direction.
Sessions will be scheduled every other week on a Saturday or Sunday, starting at 10.00am. At the end of the basic training course, pupils will have the option to proceed to advance courses which focus more on dinghy racing. Class size is 6 – 10 trainees.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Between 8 – 14 y/o (Optimist), 15 – 17 y/o (Laser/byte)
- Able to float and swim a short distance (however life jackets will be compulsory at all times)
